A company (also known as a corporation) is a very common type of business organisation in Australia. A company is an artificial individual. Companies differ from trusts and partnerships because companies are not flow-through tax entities.
Companies are truly legal (and tax) entities entirely separate from the parties who own them. Companies can enter into binding contracts, just like individuals can. They can buy and sell property, sue and be sued, be held responsible for their actions and of course be taxed on their income or their capital gains.
